Street fights are wild, chaotic affairs. Interestingly, however, they do have repeating patterns of behavior that usually reflect a definite lack of experience and training on the part of the attacker. Remember, most adults fight only a few times in their lives. When they do, they are unlikely to do so efficiently. The fact that many of them are in a blind rage when they fight does not add to their technical proficiency. Other times, the method of attack actually reflects a streak of cowardice or ruthlessness in the attacker. These cowards often use "sucker" punches, where the idea is to hit someone from behind or without warning. They achieve victory by surprise and deceit, rather than skill.
In other cases, a group will attack an individual or a much smaller group and seek to win by virtue of outnumbering their opponents. This scenario is often the modus operandi of the criminal classes and those of a violent temperament who "fight" on a regular basis. Their idea is not so much to win a fight but to hurt another person. To achieve this end, the ambush is an effective tactic. Thus, technically inexperienced rage and ruthless deceit are the two major mind-sets that lie behind most street fights. Occasionally, one will see fights of honor, where two people square off and fight one-on-one, as if they were in an MMA fight. Their fight will even resemble something more like a boxing match. Setting aside these fights of honor, however, let us analyze the more common forms of weaponless attack.
