Another common form of attack in a street fight is the tackle. Superficially, this appears similar to a double-leg takedown or bear hug. Because it is performed by untrained people, it actually tends to be done rather poorly, more like a football tackle than a true takedown. Typically, street fighters charge in with poor balance, head down, bent over at the waist, neck extended, and arms out wide- a really dreadful attempt at a takedown. This ineptness makes the tackle easy to counter, especially if you practice your takedown defenses. You can simply block the tackle by posting your hands on your opponent's head or forearms. From there, you can counter with a knee strike to the head. Another solid option is to sprawl out on your opponent and lock a front headlock. Perhaps the best counter is to lock on a tight guillotine choke and finish the fight right there.
