Transition form mounted position to rear mounted position

We have already noted the crucial importance of transitional movements that take you from one position to another. This is central to the positional strategy of jujitsu that this book features. One of the really crucial transitions is that of the mounted position to the rear-mounted position. Opportunity for this movement occurs whenever your opponent turns his back on you while you are mounted on him. He may do this when he attempts a wild escape from the mount, or when the pressure of repeated strikes from the mounted position induces panic. The key to successfully getting behind a wildly thrashing opponent underneath you without losing position is to give him sufficient space to roll over unhindered. If you clamp your thighs together you can get flipped over quite easily. As your opponent turns, open your legs in the direction he is turning toward and let him roll. Keep your feet tucked against his outer thighs just above the knees. If he attempts to get up and escape. Slide your feet as "hooks" into his hips to stabilize your position. Only after your hooks are in and you have established a sound position should you think about the next logical step - attacking your opponent with the rear naked choke.
